Travel, Breathe, Live
The word brings an instant smile to my face as soon as I say or think of it. And I know, it’s the same for many others.
A dream for many, and a reality for some, travelling is a passion shared by a huge number of people today, especially the youth, as they all swing their backpacks on and leave, to discover themselves, to discover the world.
And why shouldn’t it be like that? A travel buff at heart, I feel the need to get out, and experience the world in its true colors at all times. In fact, there are days when all I do is look for the next destination. The excitement you feel when you realize you’re going to discover and feel something you haven’t ever come across before, is the greatest high ever.
Actually feeling it, and realizing the experience with every sense of your body and soul, feeling that tingling sensation all over your body, as a slight shiver goes down your back, that is the best and the strongest high you can get. I guarantee it.
When you’re talking about travel, about just getting out and leaving on your next or even first adventure, you need to make sure that you know what you’re getting yourself into, and what exactly you can and cannot handle.
That’s the main thing that differentiates your good trip from a not so great one. You need to know your limits. For example, are you the kind of person who can trek for, maybe 9-10 hours at a stretch, knowing the dangers involved? Or, are you the kind of person who can maybe, live in a shack, a small jhopdi up in Leh, Ladakh, with the local people, and sit on the floor eating maggi and drinking chai with them?
You should be wary of the fact that the bathrooms are not clean, and you really don’t have the option to complain. Plus, they serve the best maggi ever, trust me, I know.
Know what you can and cannot do. If you want to actually understand the culture, the tradition, the local food and their spices, live with them, amongst them. Learn their tribal dance if you have to, but it will be the most interesting experience of your life. It will be something no luxurious hotel can give you. It will be a memory that will be etched in your heart for years.
Travelling gives you that will to breathe, to actually live, as you conquer the world, one destination at a time. It gives you that will, to enjoy and just be, as you discover your true limits, and your true honest self. It opens your heart, and it opens you up.
But most importantly, it opens you up to the world. You end up making acquaintances and friends everywhere you go. You meet people and interact with likeminded people across different nationalities and cultures. Moreover, you end up learning so much more about your own culture through them.
Try it. Try sleeping on the beach under the stars. Try climbing to the highest peak and breathing in the view. Try just being you. And travel. Quench that thirst of discovering the world beyond your comfortable surroundings. Do it, and do it soon. Let Mother Nature, in all her glory, take care of you and love you. And you will love her back. You will love YOU back.
